Rebar template and its uses

A rebar gauge is one of the devices designed to measure the diameter of a rebar and determine its size. Today, rebar is one of the most essential devices for use in various applications, especially in the construction industry; so that today you will not find any building that does not require rebar in its construction, but rebar is not only used in construction; rather, it has various other applications; so that in some applications only its high strength is considered, but in some other applications it must have the necessary flexibility and be able to bend sufficiently.

What is a rebar gauge?

A rebar gauge is a practical device for quickly and accurately measuring the size of rebar and is capable of detecting rebars in the range of 12 to 28 mm. This tool is made of stainless steel and the numbers engraved on it are inserted with laser technology, which ensures durability and high clarity. This product is designed and manufactured entirely in Iran and is a lightweight and portable tool with a length of 8 centimeters and a weight of 50 grams. Its unit of measurement is in millimeters and its reading is done normally.

Methods for measuring the size of rebar

After you have chosen the type and material of rebar to buy, it is time to check the size. Depending on different uses, rebars are sold in different sizes or in other words, with different diameters. Determining the size should be calculated by the relevant engineers based on various factors, such as the use of the rebar and the amount of strength it must withstand. Size is another factor affecting the price of rebar, which in some cases has led many people to use smaller rebars instead of larger ones, just for the sake of a few tomans of profit, endangering the strength of the building and the lives of the residents.

Therefore, one of the concerns of principled contractors is measuring the size of the rebar, which is usually in the range of 6 to 32 mm for most applications. One of the best and most accurate ways to measure the size of the rebar is to use a ready-made rebar template. Rebar templates are made and available in various shapes, which many engineers and contractors always carry with them to measure the size of the rebar with great accuracy and prevent mistakes.

The material of the rebar template is usually made of ribbon or radiological film and is often made in the shape of an open scissors or a horseshoe. In the different shapes of the rebar template, there is a part in the form of a hole or seam to place the rebar inside and use the numbers written on the template to easily determine the size and diameter of the rebar.

Of course, some experienced engineers make their own rebar templates based on their favorite shapes and designs, which are usually made from radiological film or thin metal sheets.

Although using a rebar template is an accurate and simple solution to find out the size of a rebar, it is not the only way to measure it; there are various methods that, despite the existence of a coefficient of error and its being lower or higher in some methods, can also be used if each is available. The most famous methods for measuring rebar size, in addition to using a rebar template, can also be mentioned as the following methods:

Visual control

Visual control is the simplest and most basic method for finding out the size of a rebar. Experienced engineers with several years of experience in the construction industry can easily determine the size of the rebar just by looking at it, due to the extensive use of various types of rebar in different sizes. Of course, this does not apply to novices who do not have much experience in this field, and this method is not recommended for these people. However, even for engineers with a lot of experience, this method is prone to errors, and therefore, none of the supervising engineers are allowed to perform visual inspections in the inspection regulations.

Of course, do not forget that this method will never work in workshops where there are several different sizes of rebar that differ by only a few millimeters. Therefore, it is better for engineers to always use more accurate methods, such as using a rebar template, for measurements.

Fingertip Control

Some other supervising engineers have already measured different sizes of rebar with their knuckles and can easily estimate its size by just placing their knuckles on the rebar. This method is also not an accurate and principled method and will have a high percentage of error; because in closer sizes such as 18 and 20, which differ by only 2 mm, although this method is more accurate than visual control, it still does not seem like an interesting measurement method and using a rebar template is a better method.

Rope

If you don't have anything at hand in your construction site, rope or string is one of the tools you are likely to find. By wrapping the rope around the rebar and then unwinding it, you can measure the circumference of the rebar and then calculate the diameter of the rebar. This method is better than the previous two methods, but for more accurate measurements, it is still better to always have a rebar template in your pocket.

Caliper

One of the most accurate measuring tools for civil engineers is the caliper. A caliper is a tool similar to a wrench with a precise ruler on its handle. By twisting the sheath, the caliper jaws can be brought closer together and by placing the rebar between these jaws, its diameter size can be measured. The percentage of error in this method is compared to
